MRS. DORMAN
ABOUT
Hello, I'm Mrs. Dorman! I teach Illustration, Figure Drawing, and Art7 at Centennial Middle School.

I have lived in Utah my whole life minus a summer in Shanghai, China, but that's a different story. I enjoy camping, climbing (pretty much anything outdoors), and traveling the world with my husband. I grew up loving art, but was especially impacted by an art teacher I had in Junior High who encouraged me to continue to take art classes. I took Painting and Drawing courses throughout high school and when it came time to choose my major, although I was interested in other careers as well, I knew art was what I needed to do. I studied for a semester at Utah State University and then transferred to Brigham Young University where I graduated with a BA in Illustration and a K-12 Education License for Art.
I teach art because I recognize the need for it in public schools: art teaches you to find many solutions to a single problem, it teaches you to look at the world in a different way.
A fellow artist once said, "An hour spent looking at the world will always be an hour well spent...", and I agree! I also teach because I am inspired by the creativity of my students and enjoy learning from them.
In my classroom, you will learn how to share your opinions and worldview in a safe setting; even when your opinion is different than someone elses. No matter your background, interests, initial talent, or intelligence there will always be a place to share your thoughts and creativity in my classroom.
Art is a learning process that allows you to make creative decisions and then present them in a way unique to you in order to teach others about what you know or see. I'm excited to be teaching!
